"Nice to meet you, I've gotta go to my next appointment now."

During the 2004-2005 hurricane season, the cat team insurance adjusters (hired by the insurance companies) were often
given 50-100 claims to adjust as quickly as possible.  Often times, they will only spend about 15-20 minutes with each
insured documenting the damages to the best of their ability  before they would move on with the next insured.
Sometimes, they just take a lot of pictures and hope that they don't forget anything when it comes time to input your
loss into their computer program.

A few weeks later, when their estimate arrives in your mailbox, it looks very official, however many times they are
inaccurate.  Many estimates have missing items, the wrong dimensions for the rooms, the quality of the materials
doesn't match (like, kind & quality) what was there before the loss, and the database used by the company adjuster
doesn't always take into consideration market conditions during or after a storm.

"We're going to pay $175 per square to remove & replace a 3 tab roof."

We have seen first hand where the insurance companies told their "independent adjusters" to lower the prices on the
computer program database.  This practice is wrong and it shows that the "independent adjusters" are truly working for
the insurance companies.

One example is that after a hurricane, a licensed roofing contractor charges $350-$400/square.  A typical roof
replacement estimate prepared by the "independent adjuster" was often 60% lower than it should've been.  After
Hurricane Katrina, we worked on behalf of an insurance company that had us use a computer program database that
was giving out low ball prices.  As we completed our assignments, we started rolling our eyes at the low ball prices that
the computer program was coming up with.  We spoke with our storm manager & were told not to adjust (increase) any
of the prices within the program.  This computer database program was paying $135/square to remove & replace a
square of 3 tab shingles, whereas the licensed roofers were charging the insureds $350-$400/square.

There are hundreds of items necessary to rebuild your home/business.  If most items have lower prices within their
database, how does the policy holder have a chance of rebuilding?

Rest assured for your claims that we will be using a computer estimating program that accurately represents market
conditions in your area for both labor & materials.

"Where is the Overhead & Profit?"

We have recently seen where a large insurance company purposely left off Overhead & Profit from the adjuster's
estimate.  This would cause you not to have enough money to complete the repairs.  Standard practices for independent
adjusters is to include 10% overhead & 10% profit on all estimates with 3 or more trades (examples of trades are roofer,
painter, drywall, flooring, etc.).  This particular insurance company left it off even though 12 trades were necessary.
